My Coaching Philosophy
Vision
- People have more capacity for achievement and action than they realize - constant encouragement is required to overcome small dreams and self-doubt.
The Practice of Mastery
- A commitment to mastery is a commitment to continual learning.
- People do what they practice, not what they say.
- People get results where they consistently place their attention.
- To pursue mastery is to love the drudgery of the practice.
Learning
- There is great difference between intellectual knowledge
("I understand") and the demonstrated ability to put the knowledge into action ("I understand and I can do").
- Third-party observation and feedback clarifies one's view of reality.
- It takes time to replace current habits and practices with better ones.
- The easiest way to learn is to insert learning practices into activities already scheduled into one's day. This results in twice the value for the same amount of time.
Resistance to Change
- Change follows awareness - people cannot change what they do not notice or understand.
- Subconscious competing priorities sabotage attempts to change.
- Compelling reasons are required to drive difficult change; to convert dreams, good ideas and intentions into reality.
- Change is not possible without destroying something - one cannot change while staying the same.
The Ultimate Goal
- A fully functioning person accesses all sources of self-wisdom - intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
- When an individual's life experiences, talents, values, and passionate concerns are fully expressed through life purpose, a specific world need is met, and the individual's evolutionary potential is fulfilled.
- Simply stated, coaching helps people go about the business of completing their lives.
